After a long journey from the Lake District we finally arrived at the Cruise Terminal in Southampton to find the magnificent Eurodam sat in the port.

I had never seen a cruise ship of this size before so my initial impressions were ‘wow’, Embarkation ran smooth and I was impressed to be greeted by all the friendly staff as we boarded the ship. They were very friendly and were more than happy to assist us to our cabin.

Even though we had a partially obstructed Ocean view cabin it didn’t really make a difference to me as the cabin itself was very impressive with its soft furnishings and flat screen TV.

As we didn’t really have long to explore the ship we freshened up and headed to the Lido restaurant for a bite to eat before exploring the different bars, restaurants and facilities the ship had to offer. As I had never experienced a buffet on board a ship I was stunned at the amount of choice on offer from a variety of freshly cut fresh meats to a wide selection of cheeses and pasta’s.

After eating as much as my stomach could bear we headed to the Sea View bar and sampled a few cocktails, I highly recommend the Strawberry Daiquri, Pina Colada or if you’re a whisky drinker the Manhattan. There was so much to see and do on board so we quickly headed on a tour of the ship. The first thing that caught my eye as we walked around was the beautiful array of Artwork and the tasteful décor; there was so much attention to detail that even the lifts were impressive.

As I am a Sushi lover I couldn’t wait to check out the speciality restaurant to see how it was made. The staff were only too happy to give me a demonstration and let me sample freshly prepared fish wrapped in rice and seaweed. What an experience to see them in action, I highly recommend a visit whilst your on your cruise. We still had time to spare before dinner so we checked out the modern fitness centre with hydrotherapy pool, spa and salon, I could have just handled a massage, but there was no time to relax.

Dinner was served in the Upper main dining room at 8.30 where we were greeted by our own personal waiter. A five course dinner began with Soup followed by Pate, salad, ‘Posh’ Surf and Turf (Lobster and Steak) which was the tastiest I have ever tried and also went down well with a nice glass of white wine. I didn’t think I would have room for a desert but I couldn’t resist the Tiramisu.

As we stepped out of the restaurant there was an announcement inviting everyone to the Lido pool for the “Dessert Extravaganza”, Wow ! I had never seen anything so impressive in all my life. There were deserts going round the full length of the pool, Big hand made chocolate Eiffel towers, Ice carvings, Chocolate dipped strawberries and many many other culinary delights ‘Yes you guessed it I did squeeze a couple of tasters in’.

As we strolled (sorry probably rolled) to the Show Lounge we caught the end of the show where the performers were very entertaining. What better way to end the night on the ship than heading to the night club to have a bit of a boogie before heading back to the cabin for a good nights sleep before heading back home.

I highly recommend Holland America Line as you will be very impressed!
